To use professional nursing expertise to direct clinical medical services.  Responsibilities include coordinating services and developing goals and objectives for services for pediatrics and adults.


The position is responsible for clinical nursing services, programmatic, personnel, supervisory, and fiscal decisions in the clinical services unit.  An employee in this class supervise and monitor a variety of public health programs with responsibility for coordinating services and developing goals, objectives, and patient outcome measures.

Examples of Duties

This position directs, manages, administers, and evaluates all phases of the Clinical Service Division of the Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services-Department of Public Health (GCDHHS-DPH) at multiple sites, which includes 12 State programs; 120 professional and paraprofessional staff, and assurance of compliance of the NC Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act and the NC Medical Board guidelines for 58 professional staff (nurses and Advanced Practice staff). Oversight for programmatic, personnel supervisory, and fiscal decisions concerning the GCDHHS-DPH Clinical Services unit. Coordination is required with other Health Department units and with private/public providers of like services. This position is one of the ten member Executive Team. Position works in Greensboro and High Point.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from a accredited college or university with a major study in nursing, health administration, or public health.  Six years experience in a public health or social service agency providing planning, consultation or direct services with at least two years in a supervisory capacity, one year of which shall be in a health related setting.  Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience. 

Preferred Qualifications
BSN with 6 years PH Nursing Supervisory level experience; or MSN with 5 years PH Nursing Supervisory experience

Necessary Special Qualifications
Documentation of immunity to: measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox, per CDC recommendations.  Screening/proof of Hepatitis B immunity, as recommended by the CDC.
