  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is required within a reasonable amount of time upon hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Lead Advanced Quality Engineer. This opportunity requires a high energy, results driven individual, who enjoys challenges and has the desire to grow within a corporation that uses advanced cutting-edge technology to support some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    Designs, implements, and maintains quality assurance protocols and methods for processing materials into partially finished or finished products

    Designs methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of production processes, production equipment and finished products

    Performs analysis of reports and production data to identify trends and recommend updates or changes to quality standards and procedures when necessary

    Provides technical review of documents, drawings, assembly instructions, and project plans

    Compares defects against standards and recommends dispositions, verifies implementation of rework

    Collects, organizes and analyzes project data, generates and/or reviews metrics

    Performs audits, assigns corrective action, and verifies implementation

    Participates in project reviews and meetings including technical design reviews, technical peer reviews, material review boards, change control boards, failure review boards

    Leads and participates in continuous improvement and problem solving activities within the project

    Reviews documents/Drawings/Instructions for conformance to requirements

    Authors QA processing documentation

    May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees

    Witnesses and/or monitors test activities

    Contributes to the completion of major programs and projects

    Regular contact with senior levels of internal work groups

    Works under limited direction

    Contact with project leaders and other professionals within Engineering and Operations departments, and with project teams across the company

    Frequent contact with external customers

    Provides resolution to a diverse range of complex problems

    Works as an individual technical contributor on one or more projects

    Recognized as an authority in a specific domain of expertise (e.g. hardware or software engineering)

    Participates as an active member of the project team

    Independently determines approach to solutions

    Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause significant delays or require the substantial expenditure of resources

    Ability to lead investigations and evaluations for root cause and corrective actions, verify implementations and effectiveness

    Travel may be required

    Security clearance with polygraph may be required

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Proficient knowledge of domain (hardware, software, systems, logistics, manufacturing) methodologies, tools, and standards

    Proficient knowledge of ISO 9001:2015

    Experience with electrical assemblies and standards such as IPC-A-610 preferred

    Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

    Proficient written and verbal communications skills

    Ability to think creatively

    Ability to multi-task

    Strong ability to work cross functionally with development and manufacturing

    Contributes to the achievement of business objectives

    Proficient skill in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions

    Proficient ability to clearly report relevant to sound quality engineering processes

    Ability to sell concepts and ideas

    Proficient knowledge of interpretation of drawings

    Proficient skill in reviewing documents/drawings/instructions for conformance to requirements techniques

    Proficient skill in reporting quality activities, findings, and issues both in writing and verbally

    Strong interpersonal skills

    Proficient knowledge of use of relevant inspection/measurement tools and techniques

    Proficient understanding of organizational and business policies and procedures, processes and government regulations

    Proficient in understanding customer contractual requirements

    Proficient in supplier/sub-contractor development
