    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a High Voltage Power Supply Design Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    The Applicant for this position must have experience in the design of High Reliability, High Voltage DC Power Supply systems.

    Applicant will be a primary point of contact for high voltage power systems and have knowledge/expertise in power system architectures, design, and test.

    Support various groups of electrical and mechanical engineers responsible for high voltage DC power supply designs and upgrades (at the system and component level) through concept, detailed design (including PWA layout), integration and test, production release, and continuous improvement throughout the product’s life cycle.

    Leads analysis of customer and system requirements and development of architectural approaches and detailed specifications for various power supply products.

    Leads development of high-level and detailed electronic power supply designs consistent with requirements and specifications



    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Understanding of high voltage single and three phase AC primary power to DC output power converters. (Spellman / Glassman power converter experience preferred).

    Design experience / expertise at both the cabinet and PWA level.

    Experience in HV switch / switching systems design.

    Experience with design of Test Load assemblies (including heat dissipation requirements).

    Experience in HV output to signal path design including understanding of noise, safety and physical separation requirements.

    Experience with 20kV power chassis design including corona and HV breakdown / withstand testing

    Ability to create preproduction models to verify and refine final designs

    Ability to work closely with manufacturing to facilitate production builds

    Ability to create and document component and system test plans

    Understanding of power filtering required to provide clean DC power to hardware and systems (passive and active).

    Able to translate system requirements into workable designs.

    Ability to integrate Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) into HVPS systems. Prefer Allen-Bradley experience.

    Understanding of Ladder Logic for PLC controllers.

    Design level understanding of Personnel Safety Interlock Systems for high voltage systems and equipment.
